Taking care in crisis // navigating times of uncertainty
Updated: May 14, 2020
I’ve lost track of my days and weeks at this point, as I’m sure many of you have as well. It’s been a whirlwind of emotions for us all, and it’s important now more than ever to take care of ourselves mentally, physically and spiritually. Here are a few ways I’m staying sane and healthy during this season:
Sticking to a normal routine
This has been crucial for me. The first few weeks were a struggle to get out of bed on time, and my motivation for the day was super low. So I had to go back to my normal routine before quarantine, and it’s made a huge difference in my day. My morning routine looks somewhat like this:
Workout and/or morning walk
Listen to my favorite music playlist or podcast
Read my daily devotional
Start my work day
Staying connected with friends + family
I honestly feel more connected than ever to my friends and family. Everyone is handling this crisis differently, so be sure to check in on the people in your life. And get creative! I’ve had virtual happy hours, bible studies, game nights, etc., to stay connected.
Getting active I personally love working out; it relieves me of any stress I’m feeling, and it just makes me feel good. If working out isn’t your thing, I encourage you to go for a walk and get some fresh air when you can - it’s good for the soul!
Limiting my news + social media intake I’ve pretty much stopped watching the news at this point. I know the overwhelming reports and stories give me anxiety or put me in a bad mood, so I choose not to tune in as frequently anymore. The same goes for social media. Know your limits and take a break when you need to.
Feeding my mind with positivity
Lastly, I’m constantly feeding my mind with positive thoughts and encouragement. So whatever that looks like for you, whether that’s prayer, meditation, reading, podcasts, etc., do that daily and I promise you’ll have better peace of mind.
We will get through this! Here’s a fun way to keep your self-care in check.
